CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Six former Harvard
All-Americans have been tabbed to the ECAC Hockey women's
All-Decade Team, the conference office announced Tuesday
afternoon. Harvard had the most former players on the team,
followed by St. Lawrence (three) on the 12 player list.
A committee made up of coaches and league administrators selected
the group, recognizing distinguished play of student-athletes in
the league from the 1999-2000 season through the 2008-09 campaign.
Jennifer Botterill '02-03, the only two-time recipient
of the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award, presented annually to the
nation's top player, led a quartet of former Crimson players
on the first team. A four-time Olympian and three-time gold
medalist, she was a four-time All-America selection during her
career in Cambridge. Botterill helped Harvard reach the
Frozen Four on three occasions, winning the 1999 AWCHA national
championship. Botterill was named the ECAC Hockey Player of the
Year three times (2000, 2001 and 2003) and was also tabbed the
conference Rookie of the Year in 1999. A four-time All-ECAC
Hockey choice, Botterill owns the Harvard career scoring record
with 340 points and 157 goals, while ranking second in school
history with 183 assists.
Julie Chu '06-07, the winner of the Patty Kazmaier Award
in 2007, joins Botterill as a forward on the first team. A
three-time Olympic medalist, Chu was a three-time All-American
honoree and guided the Crimson to the NCAA championship game in
2003, 2004 and 2005. The ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Year in
2003, Chu was a four-time All-ECAC Hockey choice. Chu is the
NCAA record holder with 284 points and 196 assists.
Sarah Vaillancourt '08-09 completes Harvard's
sweep of the first-team forwards, as the 2008 Patty Kazmaier Award
winner also grabs a spot on the ECAC Hockey All-Decade Team.
A two-time Olympic gold medalist, Vaillancourt was the ECAC Hockey
Player of the Year in 2008 and 2009. A three-time
All-American, she was the ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Year in 2005
and garnered four nods to the all-conference team. She stands
seventh in Harvard history with 237 points on 106 goals and 131
assists.
At the blue line, Angela Ruggiero '02-04, a four-time
finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Award and winner in 2004 joins the
first-team honorees. A four-time Olympic medalist, Ruggierio,
who was recently named to the International Olympic Committee
Athletes' Commission, was a four-time All-ECAC Hockey choice
and was the conference's Player of the Year in 2004.
She helped the Crimson reach the NCAA championship game in 2003 and
2004 and ranks sixth in program history with 253 points on 96 goals
and 157 assists.
Nicole Corriero '05 grabbed a spot on the ECAC Hockey
All-Decade second team as a forward. A three-time
All-American, Corriero holds the NCAA record with 59 goals in a
season, which she accomplished in 2004-05. She helped Harvard
reach the NCAA championship game in 2003, 2004 and 2005 and stands
