WORCESTER, Mass. – Ellen Macadam picked up four
doubles in two games as the Harvard softball team swept Holy Cross,
9-6 and 6-3, in a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon. Harvard improves
its record to 11-15 on the year while the Crusaders slip to 6-18 on
the season.
Harvard jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first game thanks
to RBI hits from Macadam, Whitney Shaw and Jennifer Francis. The
Crimson tacked on a fourth run in the top of the second as
Stephanie Krysiak plated Kassy Shiotani with an RBI double to give
the guests a 4-0 lead. Another Macadam double helped Harvard score
two more in the top of the fourth but Holy Cross answered in a big
way in the bottom of the inning, plating six runs to knot the score
at 6-6. Macadam ripped her third RBI double of the game in the
Harvard sixth and Jane Alexander scored on a passed ball in the
seventh to secure the 9-6 win in game one.
Rachel Brown earned the win for Harvard in game one, going seven
innings and striking out 10 batters to pick up her seventh win of
the season. Macadam went 3 for 4 from the plate with three RBI
while Krysiak, Shaw, Alexander, Shiotani and Jess Ferri all had two
hits in the opening win.
Macadam led off game two with a single and scored on a Melissa
Schellberg single and Schellberg crossed the plate on a passed ball
to help Harvard to a 2-1 lead after one full inning. Harvard plated
two more in the top of the second to take the lead for good and
Julia Moore held the Crusaders at bay through the middle innings.
Jennifer Francis homered in the sixth to help Harvard seal the 6-3
final in game two.
Moore picked up the win for Harvard in game two, going five
inning and scattering four hits and allowing one run to pick up her
third win of the season. Margaux Black earned her first save of the
season, pitching one inning of relief.
Harvard returns to action this weekend with doubleheaders
against Penn and Columbia Friday and Saturday.
