PRINCETON, N.J. – Junior Claire Richardson broke a
21-year old school record in the 3,000 meter run as the Harvard
track and field team wrapped up a weekend of action at the ECAC and
IC4A Championships, Sunday on the campus of Princeton University.
The men's team finished the IC4A meet in a tie for 51st, while the
women placed 31st in the ECAC competition.
Richardson led all Crimson athletes with a second-place finish
in the 3,000 meter run. The junior turned in a time of 9:23.03,
breaking the school record in the event by more than two seconds.
Mary Hirst turned in an eighth-place finish in the high jump with a
clearance of 1.65 meters, and Nicole Sliva finished 14th in the
heptathlon.
On the men's side, Fedor Garin led a group of strong field
performers, clearing a height of 4.80 meters in the pole vault to
finish eighth in the event. Edward Brucker (16.26 meters) and Jack
Brady (16.17 meters) finished 12th and 13th in the shot put,
respectively, and Brady led the way in the hammer throw with an
eighth-place mark of 58.21 meters.
Up next on the schedule are the NCAA Regional Championships,
held in Greensboro, N.C., May 28-29.
