Day One Recap
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Junior Claire Richardson
qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 5,000 meter run,
placing ninth in the national semifinals Saturday on the campus of
North Carolina A&T.
Richardson turned in the third-fastest time in the history of
the program, crossing the line in 16:31.83 to earn a berth in the
finals of the event, to be held in Eugene, Ore., June 9-12.
Richardson is the lone Crimson athlete to qualify for the national
event as Carlyle Davis and Chas Gillespie just missed qualifying
for the championships.
Gillespie, also competing in the 5,000 meter run, placed 17th
out of 48 runners with a time of 14:16.68, missing out on
qualification by just five spots. Davis qualified for the finals in
the 800 meter run on Thursday evening but was unable to advance out
of the national quarterfinal round.
