CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard
women's squash team, the reigning College Squash Association
national champion, has announced its schedule for the upcoming
2010-11 season. The team will seek to replicate its undeafeated
(12-0) record from last season as the squad seeks to earn its 13th
CSA Team Championship.
The Crimson will begin the 2010-11 season with a four-match
homestand. Conference foe Brown will be the team's first
opponent Nov. 19. Stanford (Nov. 21), Williams (Nov. 21) and
Dartmouth (Dec. 1) will finish out the homestand. Harvard will
travel to Cornell Dec. 4, before taking a few weeks off from
competition.
A road trip to Bates on Jan. 19 will mark the start to the
second half of the schedule. The Crimson will face visiting Trinity
Jan. 26, before heading to the road for matches at Penn (Feb. 5)
and Princeton (Feb. 6). A home match against Yale will round out
the regular season schedule. The CSA Team Championships will take
place in Princeton, N.J., Feb. 18-20, while the Individual
Championships will occur Mar. 4-6.
Harvard's aspirations remain high as seven of the top
nine players from last season return, including Ramsay Cup winner
Laura Gemmell who went a perfect 16-0 as a freshman. Gemmell was
named Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and was a member of
the All-Ivy League team. Juniour Nirasha Guruge, a two-time All-Ivy
League team member also returns this season. Gemmell and Guruge
were members of the first and second All-America teams,
respectively. Fellow second team All-Americans, Alisha Mashruwala
and June Tiong, also return to the Crimson for the upcoming
campaign.
