2010-11 Harvard COOP Athletes of the Week
CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—Sophomore defenseman
Danny Biega has been named Inside College Hockey national Player of
the Week, ECAC Hockey MLX Skates Player of the Week and Harvard
COOP Athlete of the Week after posting seven points in three games
for the Harvard men's hockey team.
Biega registered three key goals and four assists in a 2-1-0
week for the Crimson. He scored the game-winning goal to break a
3-3 tie in the third period Friday at Cornell and also logged two
assists in the win. He previously had three points, including the
tying goal with 4:03 left to play, in Harvard's 5-4 comeback
win against No. 15 Boston University Feb. 14 at the Beanpot
tournament.
The Montreal native gave Harvard a first-period lead with his
goal Saturday at Colgate. The tally moved him into ties for first
place among ECAC defensemen in league goals (eight) and league
points (19). Four of Biega's seven points in the week came on
the power play, and one came shorthanded.
Biega also helped the Crimson kill all six power plays it faced
in its weekend ECAC games. For the season, he leads Harvard with 14
assists and, with 23 points, shares the team scoring lead with
junior forward Alex Killorn.
This is the first time in Biega's career that he has
earned the INCH, ECAC or COOP honors. He was named ECAC Rookie of
the Week once last season. Older brother Michael was named Harvard
COOP Athlete of the Week Jan. 10.
