CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Four members
of the No. 1 Harvard women's squash team suffered their first
individual losses of the season but the team remained unbeaten,
defeating Penn, 5-4. The Crimson improve to 7-0 overall and 4-0
against Ivy opponents.
Reigning CSA Individual National Champion, Laura Gemmell,
remained undefeated after toppling Penn's Nabilla Arffin,
11-5, 10-12, 11-4, 11-5. Nirasha Guruge also kept her record
unblemished, winning a five-set nail-biter against Rachael Goh,
11-13, 11-9, 9-11, 11-8, 13-11.
Penn picked up three wins in matches No. 3, 4 and 5, handing the
Crimson's Alisha Mashruwala, June Tiong and Natasha Kingshott
their first individual losses of the season.
Cece Cortes, Sarah Mumanachit and Alexandra Zindman were able to
keep their perfect records intact, playing the No. 6, 7 and 9
matches. Cortes and Mumanachit picked up straight-set victories,
while Zindman needed five to close out Hyland Murphy.
Harvard will be back in action tomorrow as it travels to
Princeton for another Ivy League showdown.
