Josephine Pucci scored her first goal as a member of Team
USA Sunday against Slovakia (Gil Talbot).
ZURICH, SWITZERLAND – Katey Stone, the Landry Family
Head Coach of Harvard Women's Ice Hockey, coached Team USA to
a 5-0 win over Slovakia Sunday in the squad's opening game at
the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Women's
Championship. Current Harvard sophomore Josephine Pucci scored the
second goal of the game, her first as a member of the National
Team.
Pucci's goal came at the 8:18 mark of the second period on
a one-timer from the slot. Three players from the University of
Wisconsin tallied a goal each in the final period to secure the 5-0
win for the United States in the first game of preliminary
play.
While Pucci is the only member of Team USA currently on the
Harvard roster, three other members of the U.S. squad are former
Crimson athletes. Angela Ruggiero '02-04 is the most
experienced member of the group as she is competing in her 10th
IIHF World Championship tournament and Caitlin Cahow '07-08
joins Ruggiero and Pucci on defense in her fourth IIHF World
Championship event. Julie Chu '06-07 is a forward on the U.S.
roster and is playing on her seventh World Championship team.
The U.S. faces Russia tomorrow in the second game of preliminary
round action.
