The Game
The Harvard men's soccer team makes a trip to Queens, N.Y., for
the first road game of the season, as the Crimson visits No. 25 St.
John's Friday evening at 8 p.m.
The Crimson, which defeated Northeastern, 1-0, in the season
opener Sunday, owns a 1-0 record, while the Red Storm stands at 2-1
this fall.
The Matchup
Friday's game will mark the first time Harvard and St. John's have
met on the soccer field.

Harvard Against Ranked Opponents
Prior to the matchup against No. 25 St. John's, the Crimson has
yet to play a ranked opponent this season. In 2010, Harvard went
2-1-2 against ranked foes, defeating No. 13 Stanford and No. 18
Penn.
About Harvard
The Crimson outshot Northeastern, 12-9, and was even in corner
kicks, 3-3, in the season opener. Brian Rogers scored
the game's only goal at 82:51. Co-captain Tim Linden sent in a
corner kick from the right side, and Rogers booted the ball into
the back of the net, giving the Crimson its first win of the
year.
Harms made three saves en route to the shutout, while Jamie Rees
paced Harvard with three shots in the contest. Harms now has 17
shutouts in his career, two shy of tying Chris Johnson '06 for the
all-time school record.
About St. John's
The Red Storm, which is ranked No. 25 in both the NSCAA and
Soccer America polls, boasts a 2-1 record after earning
consecutive road wins over No. 8 William & Mary, 3-0, and
Boston University, 1-0.
Jack Bennett tallied the game-winning goal in both victories and
paces St. John's with two goals and four points. Jimmy Mulligan has
assisted on two goals, while Nick Matthews and Adrian L'Esperance
have each found the back of the net on one occasion.
Rafael Diaz has started all three contests and is 2-1 with two
clean sheets, a 1.04 goals-against average and a .625 save
percentage. St. John's is outscoring teams, 4-3, outshooting the
opposition, 41-28, and has earned more corner kicks, 12-8.
Home Turf
With the 1-0 victory over Northeastern, Harvard now owns a 2-1
all-time record at the Soldiers Field Soccer Stadium.
Season Openers
Harvard has won four of its last five season openers, having
defeated Rhode Island (2007), Stony Brook (2009), Stanford (2010),
and now Northeastern (2011).
Up Next
The Crimson returns to Cambridge for back-to-back home games
against Rhode Island Sept. 11 and Massachusetts Sept. 16. Harvard
will face URI at Ohiri Field, while the game against the Minutemen
will be held at the Soldiers Field Soccer/Lacrosse Stadium.
