CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard coed sailing team sent four freshmen to the Tufts Central Series 1 regatta, where the Crimson newcomers contributed to a second-place finish. The coed squad also placed eighth at the Harry Anderson Trophy at Yale, while the women took eighth at the Tony Deustch '58 Regatta after racing on Saturday and Sunday. 

"We are very happy overall with our freshmen on the first weekend," Harvard sailing head coach Mike O'Connor said. "There was great effort. They were not consistent, but there are good indications that they can compete at the collegiate level."

At the Tufts Central Series 1 regatta, freshman Andrew Mollerus skippered all 18 races in the A division with Sydney Karnovsky as his crew. The duo won the 16th race of the regatta, while earning second four times and third three times to place first in the A division with 94 points.

Freshman Marek Zaleski and junior Alice Kenney served as the skipper and crew, respectively, for the B division boat on Saturday. They finished in the top three in three races, while Sunday's B division team of freshman Sophie Bermudez (skipper) and sophomore Ashleigh Inglis (crew) won the 12th race of the regatta. Harvard sailed third in the B division with 84 points to help the Crimson to a team score of 178, just nine points behind the winner, Boston University.

The Crimson coed team competed in eight races at the Harry Anderson Trophy before the breeze died on Sunday, forcing the regatta to end early. Senior Jason Michas and sophomores Michael Drumm and Reid Bergsund sailed to a third-place finish in the B division with 44 points to help pace Harvard to a team score of 127. Yale totaled 62 points to win the Harry Anderson Trophy. Michas and Bergsund earned the win in the sixth race of the regatta after placing second in race four.

Sophomore Gram Slattery skippered the A division boat, with sophomore Brian Drumm and junior captain Benjamin Lamont contributing to the crew. The Crimson placed in the top five in three races and tallied 83 points in the A division.

At the Toni Deustch '58 Regatta, Harvard tallied 104 points in both the A and B divisions to finish eighth and seventh, respectively. Yale won the regatta with a total score of 101 points. Junior Morgan Russom skippered the A division boat as she and classmate, captain Isabel Ruane, sailed to five top-five finishes, including a win in the first race of the regatta. The B division tandem of junior skipper Caitlin Watson and classmate Jacquelyn Cooley also logged five appearances in the top-five. 

Harvard will send sailors to three regattas next weekend, as the women compete in the Mrs. Hurst Bowl at Dartmouth and the coed team sails in the Nevin's Trophy at King's Point and the Hatch Brown Trophy at MIT.
