Erika Veidis helped the Harvard 4x4 to a school record.
BOSTON, Mass. – Besting a 15-year-old school record by over three seconds, the 4x400 relay squad led the Harvard women's track and field team Friday night at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational.
Freshman Jade Miller (54.8), junior Erika Veidis (55.7), freshman Jackie Modesett (55.8) and junior Gabrielle Scott (53.7) won the 4x4 title with a time of 3:40.41, also ranking fifth all-time in conference history. The previous Harvard record was held by Heather Hanson '99, Brenda Taylor '01, Lee Shearer '99 and Marna Schutte '01 at the ECAC Championship on Feb. 27, 1999.
Veidis also earned the win in the 800 meter run, crossing the finish line in 2:05.55. The mark ranks second all-time in school history, as the junior beat out her mark from a year ago. Veidis' time also sits at No. 5 in the conference record book. Veidis ousted Dartmouth's Megan Krumpoch (2:06.31) for first overall. Sophomore Kieran Gallagher (2:13.61) ranked 10th overall in the event.
Posting a fast time in the 400 meter dash, Gabrielle Scott ranked second overall for collegiate athletes with a time of 54.48. The mark put her at No. 7 all-time in conference history.
Rookie Sarah Gillespie grabbed the title in the 1000 meter, clocking a time of 2:51.95. Gillespie moves into the top-10 in school history to No. 8 with the showing. Sophomore Paige Kouba notched the 10th spot in the event with a time of 2:59.50.
In the 3000 meter run, freshman Stephanie Deccy ranked fifth overall with a time of 10:01.48. Junior Molly Renfer finished in the top-10 (and fifth of collegiate athletes) with a time of 4:47.49 in the one mile.
In the high jump, junior Ann Giebelhaus and freshman Raegan Nizdil tied for fourth overall with marks of 1.65m (5-05.00).
The Crimson men will wrap up the Terrier Invite tomorrow.
