Track and Field Heads to ECAC/IC4A Championships at BU

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard track and field will send 27 athletes and one relay team to the ECAC and IC4A Championships at Boston University this weekend. The heptathlon and pentathlon will begin Friday evening, with the remainder of the events starting Saturday at 10 a.m. The action Sunday will begin with the long jump at 9:30 a.m.

Last Year

The field athletes proved to be the biggest point scorers for Harvard a year ago, as the women ranked 11th at the event and the men tied for 18th overall.

Adabelle Ekechukwu placed second in the weight throw with a mark of 19.46m (63-10.25). Teammate Mary Hirst matched her Heps finish in the high jump, locking down second place at the event with a clearance of 1.78m (5-10.00), just shy of her personal best.

Rewriting History

The Crimson has been rewriting the record book this season, as four school records have been broken. Senior Maksim Korolev boasts both the Harvard and Ivy League records in the 3000 (7:51.52) and 5000 meter (13:42.56) events. Watch the outstanding finish in the 5K here.

The women's 4x400 relay squad (Jade Miller, Autumne Franklin, Jackie Modesett and Gabrielle Scott) has twice broken the Harvard record, most recently at the Collegiate Invitational at the Armory with a time of 3:39.49.

Junior Danielle Barbian has also broken her own school record multiple times this season in the 60-meter dash, most recently at the Heptagonal Championships, crossing in 7.44 to take the Ivy title home.

Freshman Nikki Okwelogu won the Ivy League shot put title with a Harvard track and field program-best mark of 15.31m (50-02.75), breaking a Crimson record set on Feb. 16, 1991 (15.03m) on her first attempt.
