CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 33 Harvard men's tennis swept the final nonconference day, besting Buffalo, 6-1, and Amherst, 7-0, Saturday at the Murr Tennis Center.
Freshman Grant Solomon went 2-0 on the day as the Crimson moved to 14-5 in dual matches. Sophomore Brian Yeung also won at the No. 1 spot and earned two wins in doubles play.
The Crimson earned the doubles point against Buffalo, as senior captain Denis Nguyen and Yeung won 6-2 over Jonathan Hannestad and Sergio Arevalillo to kick off the match. Nguyen also won at the No. 1 position, besting Damien David in straight sets (6-4, 6-1). Junior Nicky Hu continued the trend with a 6-4, 7-6 win at the No. 3 position.
Senior captain Alex Steinroeder, senior Shaun Chaudhuri, and Solomon wrapped the match with three wins to give the Crimson a 6-1 victory.
Five of six Crimson players earned straight-set victories in the 7-0 win over Amherst in the evening. After earning the doubles point, Yeung earned a 6-1, 1-6, 13-11 win over Andrew Yaraghi at the No. 1 position. Freshman Kenny Tao bested Michael Solimano (6-1, 6-4), and Solomon upended Aaron Revzin in the No. 3 slot (6-2, 6-3).
Harvard will begin Ivy League play with Cornell and Columbia next weekend.
