NEW YORK – Fencing for the opportunity to compete at the NCAA Championships, sophomore Adrienne Jarocki earned a gold medal in the sabre division to lead all fencers for the No. 4 Crimson. Co-captain Aliya Itzkowitz, meanwhile, finished third in the sabre division.
Jarocki, looking to repeat as national champion, went 9-2 in the final round to claim top honors with a division-best plus-26 touch differential. Itzkowitz ended as one of two sabre fencers with an 8-3 mark, ending with a plus-9 indicator.
The Crimson placed four fencers in the top-10 at the regional, with freshman MacKenzie Lawrence finishing fourth after recording a 7-4 record in the final round robin grouping. Liana Yamin (6th), Hali Nelson (7th), and Hellary Zhang (10th) also wound up in the top-10.
Wielding the epee, Emma Väggö finished seventh to lead the Crimson, tallying six victories with a plus-4 indicator.
The fencers that qualify for the NCAA Championships will be announced on Tuesday, March 10, with chosen student-athletes fencing on March 19-22. The Crimson finished fifth at the NCAA final event a year ago.
