Michalek, Vesey Earn Final ECAC Monthly Awards of the Season

ALBANY, N.Y. – For the second time this season, Steve Michalek and Jimmy Vesey have been named the ECAC Goalie and Player of the Month, respectively. The duo captured those honors first back in November and the conference office announced Wednesday that they had earned the recognition once again for their performances during the month of March.

Michalek was the anchor for the Crimson's run to the ECAC title during the month of March. Starting all seven games during the ECAC Tournament, Michalek posted a 6-1 record during series wins over Brown and at Yale, before helping the Crimson defeat Quinnipiac and Colgate in Lake Placid. For his diligent work in net, Michalek would be selected to the all-tournament team. His six wins brought his season total to 21, tied for the second-most in school history. In Harvard's NCAA tournament first round game against Nebraska Omaha, Michalek made 25 saves to set a new single-season saves record with 1,029 this season. For the month, he finished with a 1.86 goals-against average and a .928 save percentage.

Vesey continued to be the offensive catalyst the Crimson has relied on him to be all season during the ECAC playoffs. Through Harvard's seven games, the junior potted nine goals to set a new ECAC Tournament record. His clutch instincts shined when he scored the game-winner in double overtime of game three of the quarterfinal series against Yale to advance Harvard to Lake Placid. Vesey went on to score twice in both the semifinals against Quinnipiac and finals versus Colgate. His outstanding play over the course of the season earned him the Walter Brown Award and he was selected as a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award. The ECAC also recognized Vesey as the conference's Player of the Year and ECAC Tournament's Most Outstanding Player.

As a team, the Crimson finished the season with 21 victories and a trip to the NCAA Tournament, both feats last reached during the 2005-06 campaign.
