Women's Rugby Welcomes Class of 2019

Six incoming freshmen will join Harvard's women's rugby squad. (Athletic Communications).

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Head coach Sue Parker and the women's rugby squad are ready to welcome six incoming freshmen for its 2015 fall season:  Grace Chao, Susie Clements, Sarah Lipson, Akweley Okine, Genevieve Quirion and Caitlin Weigel.

The class of 2019 comes to Cambridge from all over the globe, as the freshmen class spans three different countries and four different states. They will join 16 returning members of last years squad that finished third at the Ivy Tournament Championship.

Grace Chao |  Fairfax, Colo. | Kent Denver
Four-year lacrosse letter-winner and team captain senior year at Kent Dover School … Team captain and defense MVP in 2015 … Academic All-American in 2014  … Three-time Colorado All-State honoree in rugby… Captain of Glendale Raptors senior year … Team Most Valuable Back for two seasons  … Rugby State 7's Champions from 2013-14 … Qualified for National Speech and Debate Association National Championships in 2015… Colorado All-State Jazz Ensemble Bass from 2014-15.

Susie Clements | Scotland, U.K. | St. Leonards Schools
Was the first team goalkeeper in field hockey and lacrosse for three seasons at St. Leonards School … Competed in cross country for three seasons … Member of the U19 Scotland rugby 7's from 2013-14 and the lacrosse team from 2014-15 … Recipient of the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh in IB1 and the Jane Claydon Sixth Form Prize for Commitment to Sport in IB2 … Enjoys music and music journalism, dancing, current affairs and watching sports.

Sarah Lipson | Chevy Chase, Md. | National Cathedral School
Was a four-year varsity starter in both soccer and softball at National Cathedral School … Two-year co-captain for softball … Co-captained soccer team to its third-straight DC championship senior year… 2014 ISL AA first team in softball … Re-instituted the diving team and was the sole diver senior year … 2015 All-ISL first team in softball and diving … Enjoys traveling, acting, photography, reading and dancing … Mother, Ellen, attended Harvard where she played soccer and was an All-Ivy selection in softball …  Father, David, also graduated from Harvard.

Akweley Okine | Westchest, Pa. | Bayard Rustin
Four-year starter for West Chester Girls RFC  … 2015 team captain and Most Valuable Player … Helped team finish third overall at PA DII in 2015 and 2013 and a runner-up finish in 2014 … Two-year Pennsylvania All-State Team member … Four-year Bayard Rustin Speech and Debate Team member … 2014 Honorable Mention at Ivy League Model United Nations Conference.

Genevieve Quirion | Quebec, Canada | Stanstead College
Played hockey and rugby for four years and soccer for two at Stanstead College… Captained all three sports senior year … Starting flanker on Team Quebec for one year … Helped Team Quebec win the Eastern Canadian Championships in July 2015 … Captained the soccer team senior year and the hockey team junior and senior year … Female scholar-athlete of the year … "Senior S"  and "Major S" award in soccer and rugby … Rugby team Most Valuable Player … Academic headmaster's list all four years … Has been on two trips for Habitat for Humanity … Enjoys playing piano … Sister, Catherine, plays hockey at Colgate.

Caitlin Weigel | Hudson, Ohio | Hudson
Three-year starter in rugby and team captain senior year at Hudson High School… Three-time All-Ohio and All-Midwest … Two-time All-American … 2015 Ms. Rugby Ohio and Hudson Rugby MVP … All-Ohio MVP in 2014 … Four-year letter winner in swimming …2015 Team MVP … 2015 NOC Women's Swimmer of the Year, two-event All-American and Academic All-American … Earned one letter in soccer … Three-year starter for the Ohio Elite/Celtics … Enjoys volunteering and band … Father, Pat, was a state champion in shot put at Buckeye High School.
