STATESBORO, Ga. – The Harvard men's golf team opened its spring 2016 season at the Schenkel Invitational played at the Forest Heights Country Club. The Crimson completed the three-day event at plus-5 (869), good for 13th place.

Robert Deng finished at even par (216) to lead Harvard. The junior completed his first round at 2-under (70), the Crimson's lowest round of the weekend, before following up with a 74 (+2) on Saturday and an even-par round of 72 on Sunday.

The rest of Harvard's lineup followed in close order paced by Daniel De La Garza (+3, 219), who rebounded from a 75 (+3) on Friday with a pair of even-par 72's on Saturday and Sunday. Gregory Royston (+4, 220) opened at 1-under (71) but was unable to keep that pace, carding a 73 (+1) and 76 (+4) to close out the weekend.

Seiya Liu (+5, 221) turned in a strong 73 (+1) to open his tournament and showed resiliency as the weekend progressed, bouncing back from a 76 (+4) on Saturday with a 72 (E) on Sunday. In the team's greatest display of resiliency, Rohan Ramnath (+6, 222) carded his best round of the weekend on Sunday with a 71 (-1) after firing a 78 (+6) on Saturday.

The 37th Annual Schenkel Invitational attracted a competitive field of 14 teams, including eight ranked among the nation's top 50. Vanderbilt took home the team title at minus-41 (823) with Wake Forest (-31, 833) following in second. Kentucky (-25, 839), North Carolina State (-25, 839), and Auburn (-23, 841) rounded out the top five.

Harvard's score represented the fourth-best 54-hole tournament total in program history. The tournament was played at the Forest Heights Country Club, a par-72 course covering 6,962 yards.
