CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard men's golf will be represented by two of its current student-athletes at the 2025 United States Amateur Championship. Ieuan Joens and
William Ma both earned qualifications to be a part of the 312-golfer field at The Olympic Club in San Francisco where they hope to take home the historic Havemeyer Trophy. Jones and Ma will compete in one of the most prestigious amateur golf events in the world from Aug. 11-17.
The championship will be contested over two courses — the Lake Course (7,214 yards, par 70) and the Ocean Course (6,787 yards, par 70) — for the 36-hole stroke play portion on Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 11-12, before match play begins on Wednesday (Aug. 13). Only 64 golfers will make the cut and enter the match play field, which will be whittled down to 16 on Thursday (Aug. 14) before the quarterfinal (Aug. 15), semifinal (Aug. 16) and Championship rounds (Aug. 17).
Jones qualified for the tournament after a stellar showing at the Columbus Regional Qualifier. The rising sophomore posted a two-under-par round of 69 at Ohio State University Golf Club to earn a bid to the tournament at the final qualifier. He had previously posted a two-under-par round of 70 at Kernwood Country Club in Cincinnati to move on to the final qualifying round.
William Ma earned a spot in the field after firing a one-over-par round of 71 at the Rancho Sante Fe Golf Club. Previously, Ma had shot an even par round of 71 in local qualifying Enagic Golf Club to move on to the regional qualifier.
The historic Olympic Club, set in San Francisco, California, has been the site for a number of notable PGA Tour events and USGA Championships in years past including the 2012 United States Open Championship.
