NEW YORK, N.Y. – The second-ranked Harvard men's squash team lost to No. 4 Columbia, 4-5, on Sunday afternoon at the SL Green StreetSquash Center. Sean Hughes, David Ryan, Madhav Dhingra, and Adam Corcoran each won their bout for the Crimson, but the Lions tallied one more in the win column to top the Crimson for the first time in program history. Harvard moves to 3-1 for the year, 2-1 Ivy League, while Columbia goes to 7-1, 3-0 in Ivy League competition.
Dhingra and Corcoran swept their contests at spots five and nine, respectively. Hughes extended his winning streak to 19 matches with a four-game victory over Seif Attia at slot three. Ryan also used four games, fighting back from an opening game loss to get the win at spot four.
Harvard went 1-1 in five-set matches. The loss proved the difference. With the match tied at 4-4, two CSA All-America honorees battled out the deciding point at slot one. Crimson sophomore Saadeldin Abouaish forced a deciding fifth game with a 14-12 win in game four. However, Columbia relied on its Pool Trophy holder Osama Khalifa to seal the win, 11-9, in the fifth game.
