CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – First-year defenseman Jack Rathbone scored a power play goal, but Harvard men's ice hockey (4-4-2, 2-3-2 ECAC Hockey) fell, 2-1, to No. 16 Cornell (6-5-0, 4-2-0 ECAC Hockey) in front of a sold out crowd at Bright-Landry Hockey Center.

Senior goaltender Michael Lackey made 28 saves on the night, as Cornell outshot Harvard 30-24 on the night.

The Crimson trailed 2-1 heading into the final period of play, and made a push for the tying goal, outshooting Cornell 10-1 in the final frame. Harvard had a power play chance with 3:45 to play in regulation, but could not generate a quality scoring chance.

In the final minute, with Lackey out of the net for an extra attacker, a shot from the point was redirected on net by senior captain Lewis Zerter-Gossage, but Cornell goaltender Austin McGrath (23 saves) came up with the final save to help the Big Red earn the win.

Harvard took the early lead on its first power play of the night, with Rathbone beating McGrath from straightaway with a well-placed slapshot at 5:30 of the opening period.

Lackey came up with several highlight saves in the frame to help the Crimson take a one goal lead into the break.

Cornell scored twice on the power play at 7:01 (Cam Donaldson) and 13:18 (Tristan Mullin) of the second period, and outshot the Crimson 19-4 overall to take a 2-1 lead into the final 20 minutes
of play.
