CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard senior Bradley Smith delivered the fifth and match-deciding point in the final contest of the afternoon that saw the third-ranked Crimson (9-1, 4-1 Ivy League) withstand sixth-ranked Penn, 5-4. The victory against the Quakers (9-4, 3-2 Ivy League) was Harvard's fifth straight and kept its Ancient Eight title hopes alive.
With the match squared away at four all, Smith held a 10-4 advantage against Watson. The Quaker scored five consecutive points, each time increasing the tension in the crowd packed around the court. At 10-9, the Lancashire, England product quenched the Crimson crowd's thirst for the game-winner, sending the audience into a roar.
Smith's was one of four matches to last five games. Julien Gosset also picked up a point for Harvard in a match that went the distance at No. 6. Alexi Gosset and Saadeldin Abouaish fell in their contests at No. 9 and No. 1, respectively.
Harvard scored three points from spots two, three, and four. Timonthy Brownell swept one of the opening matches at No. 2. David Ryan won his bout at No. 4 during the middle rotation. Sean Hughes won the challenge at No. 3 in the final grouping.
