ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The third-ranked Harvard men's squash team swept second-ranked Rochester, 7-2, Sunday, to close out its road trip.
The team's No. 3, junior Timothy Brownell, kicked off the afternoon, charging past his opponent, Matthew Toth, 11-2, 11-5, 11-5. Junior Saadeldin Abouaish defeated Marcus Sim, 11-3, 9-11, 11-6, 11-5, as the team's No. 6. Julien Gosset quickly followed with an 11-6, 6-11, 11-8, 13-11 decision at the team's No. 9 position to extend the Crimson lead to 3-0.
First-year Marwan Tarek made quick work of his opponent Ricardo Lopez, 11-3, 11-5, 11-5, to put the Crimson just one point away from clinching the match. Junior Sean Hughes battled to five games and defeated Thijs Van Der Pluijm 11-9, 11-13, 11-5, 7-11, 11-6 to clinch the match for Harvard.
Harvard Highlights:
- Harvard extends its all-time series record to 11-4 over Rochester.
- First-year Marwan Tarek extended his win-streak to seven games, winning all his matches by a 3-0 decision.
- Sophomore Samuel Scherl continued his dominance as the team's No. 4, beating Lawrence Kuhn 11-3, 11-3, 11-5.
- Sophomore Adam Corcoran impressed for Harvard with an 11-6, 9-11, 11-8, 11-4 victory against Cesar Segundo.
