IRVINE, Calif. – First-year forward Austin Wong scored his first career goal to kick off a three-goal second period, and classmate Mitchell Gibson made a season-high 43 saves in net to help No. 17 Harvard men's ice hockey (7-4-0) earn a 4-1 win over No. 14/16 Arizona State (10-7-2) at FivePoint Arena.

Junior forward Jack Badini, an Anaheim Ducks prospect, scored, as well as sophomore forward Casey Dornbach during the second period outburst that helped put Harvard in front for good.

First-year forward Nick Abruzzese scored in the third period to round out the scoring for the Crimson.

The game was the first Division I college hockey contest in the state of California since the 1999 Frozen Four.

After an evenly played first period, Wong put the Crimson on the scoreboard at 9:54 of the middle frame. First-year defenseman Ryan Siedem made a cross ice pass to the slot to Wong, who fired a low shot past Arizona State goaltender Evan DeBrouwer (20 saves).

Then just 42 seconds later, Badini crashed the net for a rebound off a Henry Bowlby shot to make it 2-0 at 10:36.

Minutes later, Dornbach forced a turnover at the right wing, cut to the net alone, and beat DeBrouwer at 13:51 to give Harvard a commanding 3-0 lead.

The Sun Devils responded on a power play opportunity early in the third period, as Joshua Maniscalco's shot from the point beat Gibson at the :40 mark.

But another forced turnover for Harvard helped the Crimson regain the three-goal advantage. First-year John Farinacci got in front of an Arizona State breakout pass and quickly fed Abruzzese, who fired a shot that deflected off a defenseman and in at 6:08 of the third period.
