CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Umitcan Gures, a Harvard men's swimming and diving sophomore, earned a bronze medal in the 50-meter butterfly on Saturday at the European SC Championships in Glasgow, Scotland.
Representing Turkey, Gures took third place with a time of 22.38, finishing just .03 seconds shy of second.
Earlier at the Championships, Gures turned in personal-best time of 49.77 to finish in fourth place in the 100-meter butterfly. His performance, which set a Turkish record, was 1.11 seconds better than his previous best and marked the first time he broke the 50-second barrier.
The effort in Glasgow comes less than five months after Gures represented Turkey at the 18th FINA World Championships in South Korea.
