PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Harvard baseball team (24-13, 13-7 Ivy) clinched home-field advantage and a berth into the Ivy League Playoff Series, taking the first game of the Saturday doubleheader against Brown, 7-4. The Crimson dropped the second game, 5-3, despite a late rally in the ninth inning. With the win, Harvard earns a share of the Ivy League regular-season title, its first since 2005.

Game 1 – Harvard 7 Brown 4

The Crimson began its scoring in the top of the first inning. Junior Chad Minato grounded out, but scored classmate Quinn Hoffman from third. After Brown tied it in the third, senior Trent Bryan answered with a triple down the right-field line, scoring Minato and junior starting pitcher Hunter Bigge.

The Bears would take back the lead the following inning. Though, the Crimson did not falter. Junior Jake Suddleson doubled to right field, which scored Hoffman and tied the game. The scoring continued with a sacrifice fly from Minato to give Harvard a lead it would not squander. Bigge added another run in the inning, reaching on an error to score Suddleson. 

The Crimson added a final run in the ninth inning with a single to left field by Hoffman, scoring sophomore Matt Thomas from third.

Game 2 – Brown 5 Harvard 0

Despite a late ninth-inning rally, the Crimson came up just short in the second game of the doubleheader. 

Brown got out to an early 2-0 lead in the third inning, adding two more runs in the fourth inning, as well as another in the fifth inning. 

The Crimson began its rally in the ninth inning, beginning with a single by senior Patrick McColl. Suddleson followed by getting on base after a hit by a pitch. Bigge scored the two runners with a deep home run to left field to draw the Crimson to within two. Despite getting another base runner, Brown closed out the contest to split the doubleheader. 

Harvard Highlights:

• The Crimson will be making its first Ivy League Playoff Series appearance since 2006 and its ninth in program history.
• Bigge earned his sixth win of the season in game one of the series, pitching seven innings, striking out six batters. He followed that up in the second game with a three-run home run in the ninth inning.  
• Suddleson added another RBI to his total of 54, which is a program record for RBIs in a single-season. 
• Ivy League Rookie of the Week Harrison Stovern continued his success on the mound, pitching two scoreless innings in game one and earning his second save of the season.
