CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard men's ice hockey had six players honored with ECAC Hockey postseason awards, the conference announced today (March 17).
First year forward Nick Abruzzese and sophomore defenseman Jack Rathbone earned First Team All-ECAC Hockey honors and sophomore forward Jack Drury earned Second Team All-ECAC Hockey honors. Abruzzese, along with first-years John Farinacci, Mitchell Gibson, and Henry Thrun all were named to the ECAC Hockey All-Rookie Team.
Abruzzese, (14 goals, 30 assists) led all NCAA freshmen in scoring with 44 points. The Ivy League Rookie of the Year, Abruzzese was second in all of Division I college hockey with an average of 1.42 points per game. A native of Slate Hill, N.Y., Abruzzese recorded the best freshman season in the Ted Donato era at Harvard (2004-present), a mark previously established by Adam Fox (6-34-40) in 2016-17.
Rathbone emerged as one of the top defensemen in college hockey this season, recording 31 points (seven goals, 24 assists) in 28 games. He was No. 3 in the nation among blueliners with 1.11 points per contest, leading all ECAC Hockey defensemen.
Drury was Harvard's top goal-scorer, notching 20 goals in 28 games, and recorded 39 points (20 goals, 19 assists) overall. He was No. 4 in the nation with 1.39 points per game. Drury was a key cog in Harvard's nation-leading power play unit (31.2%), scoring 11 power play goals (No. 3, NCAA) on the year.
Farinacci was one of the top scoring rookies in ECAC Hockey, recording 22 points (10 goals, 12 assists) in 31 games played. In conference play, Farinacci was No. 3 among first-years with 17 points (eight goals, nine assists) in 22 games.
Gibson emerged as Harvard's primary goaltender, and he began his career at Harvard in impressive fashion, recording a 30-save shutout against Princeton on Nov. 8 to become the first Harvard goalie to record a shutout in his debut since Tripp Tracy '96 in 1992. Gibson finished the season 11-8-3 overall with a 2.61 goals-against average and .916 save percentage.
Thrun, a finalist for ECAC Hockey's Best Defensive Defenseman award, was fantastic in his first year with the Crimson. He led the team with a plus-17 rating, and recorded 21 points (three goals, 18 point) in 31 games.
