CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – On Saturday, April 11 the Harvard women's hockey team came together on Zoom in lieu of its annual year end banquet. In addition to celebrating the 2019-20 campaign and the senior class, annual team awards and the captains for the 2020-21 season were announced.
Kat Hughes, Beth Larcom, Ali Peper and Emily Yue were recognized for their four years of commitment to the Harvard Hockey program and all four are on track to earn their degrees in May.
This year's Most Valuable Player was awarded to Kristin Della Rovere. The sophomore led the roster with 37 points and 22 goals and was ranked second on the team with 15 assists. The Caledon East, Ontario native raked in a team-leading six power-play goals, six game-winning goals and a plus-19 rating. She was the only ECAC Hockey player to notch two hat tricks this season and was named the Women's Hockey Commissioners Association's National Player of the Month in December. Following the season, she earned Third Team All-ECAC and Honorable Mention All-Ivy honors and was recognized on the Ivy League's Winter All-Academic Team.
The coaches named Becky Dutton as the 2019-20 Most Improved Player. Dutton appeared in eight contests this season, compiling a 5-2-0 record with a .934 save percentage and 1.90 goals against average in more than 440 minutes of action. She posted two shutouts in her first three starts of the season against Rensselaer and Dartmouth and made a season-high 38 saves in Harvard's 4-3 win over Colgate in February. For her accomplishments, Dutton was awarded Honorable Mention All-Ivy following the season.
Emily Yue took home both the Dooley Award and Johanna "Jojo" Boynton award. The Dooley Award is presented annually to the player who best combines the qualities of sportsmanship, enthusiasm and devotion to her team and the game of ice hockey. The Johanna "Jojo" Boynton Award is given to the person who, without garnering recognition or praise, has positively influenced the women's Harvard hockey program with a tremendous attitude, passion for the sport and a willingness to help in any capacity, while sharing in HH's commitment to excellence.
Voted on by their teammates, Emma Buckles and Becky Dutton were announced as captains for the 2020-21 season.
