Men's Swimming and Diving Announces Eight-Member Incoming Class of 2024

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Coming off its fourth straight Ivy League crown, The Ulen-Brooks Endowed Coach for Harvard Men's Swimming and Diving and the 2019-2020 James Herscot '58 Coach of Excellence Kevin Tyrrell is announcing the incoming class for men's swimming and diving.  

The eight-member first-year class joins an outstanding group of talented returners, including all four of the Crimson's CSCAA All-Americans from the 2020 season.

Zach Bartel | Breaststroke | Fort Collins, Colo. | Fossil Ridge
Named to the 18 & Under World Top 100 list in the 200 breaststroke … Earned All-American and All-State honors in the 200 IM in 2019 … Swimmer of the Meet at the 2019 Wiedeman Invite … Colorado state record holder in 200 LCM Breaststroke … Junior National Finalist in 200 LCM and SCY breaststroke … Colorado state team champion in 2017 … Holds 10 team records for Fort Collins Area Swim Team … AP Scholar with honors … Top 5% in high school class … Academic All-American … Enjoys basketball, football and skiing … Son of Pam and Bill Bartel … Sister, Zoe, swims at Stanford … Cousin, Alex Perkins, rows crew at the University of Washington.

Aayush Deshpande | Butterfly | Naperville, Ill. | Waubonsie Valley
Nine-time NISCA and three-time Scholastic All-American … Named MVP twice at Waubonsie Valley High School (2019, 2020) … Finished second four times in the state championships … Three-time All-Conference and Academic All-Conference … Holds four school records in the 200 medley relay, 200 IM, 100 butterfly, and 400 freestyle relay … Competed in three NCSA Championship relay teams … Holds four individual club records and relay records … National Merit Commended … Summa Cum Laude … Leader in Business … Enjoys cooking, spikeball, traveling to different countries and trying cuisine … Son of Archana and Anand Deshpande.

Utah State Championship Swimmer of the Meet in 2018 … Springville High School Athlete of the Year in 2020 … Seven-time high school state champion … Holds two state swimming records and seven Springville swimming records … All-American qualifier … Undefeated throughout his junior year … Academic All-American and All-State selection … Earned leadership award … Member of the chamber choir … Participated in "Kids Who Count" and several other community service events … Enjoys woodworking and metalworking, music, games, outdoor activities and reading … Son of Kim and Cory Green … Mother, Kim, swam for Iowa State University … Sister plays volleyball at Stockton University.

Junior National Qualifier … U.S. Open qualifier … Three-time NISCA and Scholastic All-American … Georgia High School Swim Coaches Male Swimmer of the Year … State Team Champion in 2020 … State Individual Champion in 200 IM and 100 breaststroke … 17-18 year-old age group record holder in 4x100 medley relay … Marist record holder in 200 IM and 100 breaststroke … Two-time Marist Most Valuable Swimmer … Marist scholar-athlete award … National Honor Society … Dean's List … French Honor Society … George Washington Book Award winner … Mu Alpha Theta … Son of Colleen and Brian Harron … Grandfather, Steve Quinn, played football at Notre Dame and was a member of the 1966 National Championship team and also played for the Houston Oilers.
