BOSTON – The Harvard women's hockey team spent the evening of Oct. 10, 2021 preparing meals for the thousands of volunteers who would support the 125th running of the Boston Marathon on Monday, Oct. 11.
The yearly tradition for the team was missed in 2020 as the marathon was canceled due to COVID-19.
"Marathon Monday is a big day for the city of Boston as a whole so being able to be a part of such a unique event, even in a small way, is a really fun experience for our team" said senior
Kate Glover.
In all, the team assembled close to 3,000 sandwiches that were distributed to volunteers along the entire route from Hopkinton to Boylston St.
"At the end of the day, we are all pretty competitive" added Glover, "So it's always fun to get some healthy competition going outside the rink and see which group can make the most sandwiches! (Go Team Italian!)"
The women's hockey program is set to open the 2021-22 season on Friday, Oct. 22 at Dartmouth. Harvard's home opener will be played the next day, Oct. 23 against Saint Anselm.
