RV/RV Football Upends Penn, 23-7, on Senior Day

Box Score CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Running back Aaron Shampklin scored two touchdowns, the defense forced four turnovers and RV/RV Harvard  football (7-2, 4-2 Ivy League) came away with a 23-7 victory over Penn (3-6, 1-5 Ivy) on Senior Day at Harvard Stadium.

Momentum swung in Harvard's direction early when safety James Herring made the first interception of his career on the opening play from scrimmage.

Although the Crimson was not able to capitalize initially, the Harvard offense would make a big play of its own on its next possession when Shampklin broke free for a 72-yard touchdown run to put Harvard on the board first with 3:20 remaining in the first quarter. The run was Shampklin's longest of the season.

Kicker Jonah Lipel connected on a 26-yard field goal early in the second quarter to make the score, 10-0, before a 20-yard run around the right edge by Penn's Isaiah Malcome got the Quakers their first score of the game, cutting the Harvard lead to 10-7 with 11:44 to go in the first half.

A 30-yard field goal by Lipel as time expired in the opening half made the score 13-7 in Harvard's favor as the teams headed to the locker rooms.

Just as it did to start the game, the Crimson defense forced a turnover on Penn's opening drive in the second half. Linebacker Andrew Irwin forced a fumble deep Quaker territory, leading to a Lipel field goal from 41-yards out.

Herring picked up a second interception while linebacker Daniel Abraham grabbed a pick of his own in the second half.

The punctuation mark came with 2:42 left in the quarter when Shampklin scored his second of the game on a 16-yard rush.
