Despite trading baskets to kick off the contest, the Crimson roared out to a 10-5 lead behind four points from both McCarthy and Turner. A quarter defined by the offenses, the Crimson continued to fire on all cylinders, giving Harvard as much as an eight-point lead and a 27-22 edge going into the second period.
Building on its offensive success to start the second quarter, the Crimson answered an early Merrimack triple with three of its own, pushing the lead to 36-25. Not taking its foot off the gas, Harvard pushed its advantage, riding a 13-0 run to go up by 15. Despite some pushback from Merrimack shooters, baskets from Mullaney and Forbes ensured the Crimson a dominant 50-39 lead at the half.
Exchanging baskets and turnovers to start the second half, both teams' shooting kept the scoreline pat, with the Crimson maintaining a 62-51 lead halfway through the third quarter. However, 10 late points from Forbes kickstarted a Crimson run that gave Harvard a 76-59 advantage going into the final frame.
Looking to ice the game early, the Crimson outscored Merrimack 10-4 to begin the fourth quarter, jumping out to an 86-63 lead with six minutes left in the contest. The Harvard defense proceeded to close out the game, holding the Warriors to just 12 more points and securing the 99-75 win.
