No. 17 Men's Ice Hockey Hits The Road To Face Ivy Rivals Brown and Yale

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 17 Harvard men's ice hockey (5-3-1, 4-1-1 ECAC Hockey) hits the road for its final games of the calendar year 2021 when it takes on Brown and Yale this weekend (Dec. 3-4). Harvard is 3-0-0 against Ivy opponents this season, including wins against Dartmouth, Cornell, and Brown (last Tuesday).

What to Know
• Last Friday (Nov. 26), in a tightly-played non-conference contest against New Hampshire, Harvard fell, 1-0, to the Wildcats at Bright-Landry Hockey Center. UNH's Jackson Pierson scored the deciding goal midway through the third period, breaking the deadlock for the deciding score. Junior goaltender Mitchell Gibson made 23 saves in net for Harvard keeping the Crimson in the game.

• Friday's game marks the 180th meeting between Harvard and Brown in men's ice hockey with Harvard owning a 118-47-14 edge in the series. The Crimson is 4-0-1 in its last five meetings against Brown.

• Last Tuesday against Brown (Nov. 23), Nick Abruzzese had a goal and three assists, and Alex Laferriere added two goals and an assist to lead Harvard to a 5-2 win over Brown at Bright-Landry Hockey Center. Mitchell Gibson made 18 saves in net to earn the win, as Harvard outshot Brown 40-20 for the night, and finished a perfect 5-for-5 on the penalty kill, while adding a power play goal.

• Saturday's game marks the 261st meeting between Harvard and Yale in men's ice hockey, with Harvard owning a 146-91-23 edge in the series. Harvard is 3-0-1 in its last four meetings against Yale. Harvard is 2-1-1 in its last four games at Ingalls Rink.

• On Feb. 14, 2020, Nick Abruzzese matched his career high with four points (two goals, two assists), and defenseman Jack Rathbone scored with an extra skater on late in the third period to help Harvard earn a 4-4 tie against at Bright-Landry Hockey Center in the last meeting between the two teams. Harvard goaltender Cameron Gornet made 29 saves in net, while his counterpart Corbin Kaczperski stopped 28 shots.Harvard, which trailed 4-1 midway through the second period, rallied behind goals from Abruzzese and Rathbone (scoring twice in the third period) to tie the game.

At the Helm
Following success as a player, Harvard head coach Ted Donato has compiled a long list of accomplishments as head coach of the Crimson. The former Harvard captain has guided Harvard to four ECAC Hockey titles and three Ivy League championships, claimed six NCAA Tournament berths, coached 13 All-Americans and 17 National Hockey Leaguers. Donato, who won an NCAA Championship as a Harvard player in 1989 and enjoyed a 13-year NHL career, has represented Team USA at the World Junior Championships, multiple World Championships, and was the leading scorer of the 1992 Olympic Team in Albertville, France.
