No. 9/10 Women’s Hockey Returns Home to Host Union, Rensselaer

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After spending most of November on the road, No. 9/10 Harvard (7-3-0, 4-3-0 ECAC Hockey) is back on home ice this weekend as the team kicks of December with games against Union (2-14-1, 0-8-0 ECAC Hockey) and Rensselaer (5-12-0, 2-6-0 ECAC Hockey) this Friday (Dec. 3) and Saturday (Dec. 4). Friday's game against the Dutchwomen will begin at 6 p.m., while Saturday's tilt versus the Engineers will start at 3 p.m. Both contests can be seen live on ESPN+, as well as internationally via Stretch Internet. 
 
The Crimson played five of its six games during the month of November on the road, going 4-2 for the month. This weekend's set will mark two of just three games on the schedule for the team in December, with play ramping back up in the new calendar year.
 
Harvard carries a two-game winning streak into Friday, having beaten Brown and New Hampshire in its last two outings.

What to Know
  • Junior Kristin Della Rovere carries a seven-game point streak into the weekend, tied for the longest in her career. Rovere has tallied points in eight of Harvard's 10 games, racking up two goals to go along with a team-high seven assists. 
  • Senior Keely Moy returned to the Harvard lineup against UNH, after missing the team's previous three games. In her return, Moy scored her sixth goal of the season. The San Diego native has now scored in five of the seven games she has played in this year and is averaging 0.86 goals per game.  
  • First-years Paige Lester and Hannah Chorske each picked up their first collegiate points in Harvard's 3-2 victory at New Hampshire. Lester scored Harvard's first goal of the game, while Chorske got a helper on Moy's third period strike. Lester and Chorske now join teammates Mia Biotti, Ellie Bayard, Taze Thompson and Jenna MacDonald as first-years to record a point for the Crimson this season. 
  • Harvard owns a team faceoff win percentage of .608 on the year, the second highest in Division I behind only Wisconsin (.620). Della Rovere leads the team with 128 wins at the faceoff dot, while Taze Thompson has won 73.8 percent of her draws this season. 
  • The Crimson are featured in both national polls this week, coming in at No. 9 in the USCHO rankings and No. 10 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll. It is the fourth week this season in which Harvard appears inside the top 10 in both national polls. 
  • Harvard 32-2-0 all-time against Union, with victories in the last five meetings. 
  • The Crimson leads the all-time series versus Rensselaer, 18-7-2, having won six straight over the Engineers. 
 
At the Helm: 
Katey Stone, The Landry Family Head Coach for Harvard Women's Ice Hockey, is in her 27th year at the helm of the women's hockey program. Prior to the 2021-22 season, Stone compiled a 494-253-54 record. During Summer 2021, Stone was named the recipient of USA Hockey's Distinguished Achievement Award, recognizing a U.S. citizen who has made hockey his or her profession, and has made outstanding contributions, on or off the ice, to the sport in America. No stranger to trailblazing in the sport, Stone was the first woman to be recognized for the award. Through her tenure at Harvard, Stone has coached six Patty Kazmaier Award winners, 24 All America selections, 13 Olympians and 11 NWHL/CWHL Draft picks. Her teams have won 11 Beanpot championships, seven ECAC Tournament titles and have advanced to the NCAA Tournament 11 times.
 
Up Next: 
Harvard will be off until Dec. 31 when the team welcomes Minnesota Duluth to Cambridge for a 2 p.m. non-conference matchup at Bright-Landry Hockey Center.
