Women's Ice Hockey Alum Emerance Maschmeyer '16 Gets First Olympic Nod

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Former Harvard goaltender Emerance Maschmeyer '16 was one of 23 players named to Team Canada's women's hockey roster on Tuesday for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games. The games will be held, Feb. 4-20, in Beijing, China. 
 
It is the first Olympic selection for Maschmeyer who appeared in the IIHF Women's World Championship for Canada in 2016, 2017, 2019 and 2021.
 
A native of Bruderheim, Alberta, Maschmeyer attended Harvard from 2012-2016 where she was a four-time varsity letterwinner on the women's ice hockey team. She is the program's all-time leader in saves with 2,538, a two-time Patty Kazmaier Award nominee and a Second-Team All-American in 2013-14. Maschmeyer was also a three-time All-Ivy League First-Team honoree and the 2013-14 ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Year. 
 
At Harvard, Maschmeyer ranks fourth in program history in wins (59), third in shutouts (18), and second in both goals-against average (1.65) and save percentage (.940). 
 
Women's ice hockey at the 2022 Winter Olympics features 10 teams with two pools of five. Canada is in Group A alongside Finland, Russian Olympic Committee, Switzerland and United States.
