STANFORD, Calif. – No. 23 Harvard University men's swimming and diving won five events, including both relays, as the Crimson topped the University of the Pacific, 186-30, and fell to No. 10 Stanford University, 162-127, on Friday afternoon at the Avery Aquatic Center.
The Crimson (4-1) tallied three individual wins in addition to its two relay wins on the day and recorded three NCAA B cut times as the program competed against the Tigers (1-1) and nationally top-10 ranked and host Cardinal (2-0).
Harvard won both the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay, senior
Dean Farris took first place in both the 200 freestyle and 100 freestyle, and senior
Jake Johnson claimed first in the 200 butterfly. Farris notched an NCAA B cut time in the 200 free, Johnson hit an NCAA B cut in the 200 fly, and senior
Raphael Marcoux registered an NCAA B cut in the 50 freestyle. Farris and Marcoux helped the Crimson win both relays.
Harvard Highlights
- Senior Dean Farris won the 200-yard freestyle behind a time of 1:35.57, eclipsing the NCAA B cut mark of 1:36.32 and posting Harvard's top time in the event this year. He followed that with a victory in the 100-yard freestyle in an NCAA B cut time of 43.32, topping the NCAA B mark of 43.80.
- Senior Jake Johnson captured first place in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:46.61, beating the NCAA B cut mark of 1:46.69.
- The Crimson opened the meet with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay as the quartet of senior Dean Farris, junior Jared Simpson, junior Umitcan Gures, and senior Raphael Marcoux clocked a time of 1:26.28, closing 0.02 seconds ahead of Stanford (1:26.30).
- Harvard closed the meet with a victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay as the group of senior Raphael Marcoux, junior Umitcan Gures, senior Mahlon Reihman, and senior Dean Farris recorded a 1:18.73.
- Seniors Raphael Marcoux and Mahlon Reihman came in second and third in the 50-yard freestyle respectively with times of 19.79 and 20.34. Marcoux topped the NCAA B cut mark of 19.96.
- Sophomores Cole Kuster (9:05.09) and Noah Brune (9:12.27) came in second and third respectively in the 1000-yard freestyle. Kuster notched the Crimson's top time in the event this season.
- In the 500-yard freestyle, sophomores Cole Kuster (4:24.12) and Noah Brune (4:29.47) placed second and third respectively as Kuster notched the Crimson's top time in the event this season.
- Sophomore Will Grant placed second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 48.16, registering his second-fastest time in the event in 2021-22. Grant also came in second in the 200-yard backstroke in 1:45.90 while first-year Anthony Rincon placed third in the same event in 1:46.83.
- Junior Jared Simpson finished in third place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 54.40, approaching the NCAA B cut standard of 54.27. Simpson paced the Crimson in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:01.10 for fourth place.
- Junior Umitcan Gures led the Crimson in the 100-yard butterfly with a 47.84 for third place.
- In the 400-yard individual medley, senior Jake Johnson paced Harvard with a 3:59.33 for fifth place.
- In Wednesday's diving competition, first-year Adam Wesson won the 3-meter event (375.53) and took second in the 1-meter event (345.08).
