Anne Bloomer scored her first collegiate hat trick, senior goaltender
Becky Dutton made 25 saves in her fourth career shutout and No. 9/9 Harvard University women's ice hockey beat Dartmouth College, 8-0, on Tuesday night at the Bright-Landry Hockey Center.
The Crimson (12-5-0, 9-3-0 ECACH) scored once in the first period, twice in the second stanza, and five times in the third frame to score a season-high eight goals against the visiting Big Green (8-12-0, 2-11-0 ECACH), extending its ECAC Hockey winning streak to six games.
Bloomer netted the Crimson's first hat trick since Jan. 3, 2020, and junior
Kristin Della Rovere tallied three points on a goal and two assists. Senior
Becca Gilmore and junior
Maryna Macdonald each finished with two points on a goal and an assist. In goal, Dutton registered her second shutout of the season.
Opening the scoring at the 9:54 mark of the first period, Della Rovere carried the puck around the back of the net and into the left faceoff circle before sliding a pass in front of the crease to Bloomer who sent a one-timer into the back of the net.
Less than five minutes into the second period, first-year
Paige Lester sent a centering pass to junior
Maryna Macdonald who fired a shot from just inside the blue line into the top left corner of the goal, giving the Crimson a 2-0 edge at 4:59.
Inside of the final 30 seconds of the second period with Harvard on the penalty kill, Rovere won the puck in the Crimson's defensive zone, skated the length of the ice, and picked out an opening in the right side of the goal to push Harvard ahead 3-0 with 15.8 seconds left in the stanza.
Early in the third period, Gilmore extended Harvard's lead to 4-0 at the 1:23 mark of the frame. After a shot from first-year
Taze Thompson, Gilmore capitalized on a rebound in front of the goal, flicking a shot into the net.
Bloomer continued the scoring at the 11:10 mark of the third period. After the Crimson controlled the puck in the neutral zone and gained the offensive zone, senior
Keely Moy slid a backhanded pass to Bloomer who knocked a shot into the goal.
Bloomer completed her hat trick at the 15:25 mark of the third period. As the Crimson moved up the ice on the power play, Bloomer converted off a rebound from a Gilmore shot.
The Crimson added two goals inside the final two minutes of the contest. Sophomore
Shannon Hollands took advantage of a loose puck in front with 1:43 to play, and first-year
Hannah Chorske scored from in front of the net with 1:07 remaining off a pass from Macdonald.
Harvard Highlights
- Junior Anne Bloomer netted her first career hat trick. She scored her 10th, 11th, and 12th goals this season and netted a goal for the second straight game. She scored two or more goals in a game for the first time this season and the fourth time in her career. She also scored her fourth power-play goal of the year. Bloomer paced the Crimson with nine shots in the game.
- Junior Kristin Della Rovere totaled two points in the contest on a goal and an assist. She scored her seventh goal of the season and first short-handed marker of the season. Della Rovere also tallied her 10th assist of the year. She has posted points in 13 of her last 14 games. She notched multiple points in a game for the third time in 2021-22. Della Rovere also won 12-of-16 face-offs in the game.
- Junior Maryna Macdonald netted her fifth goal this year and her second in her last three games. She added her fourth assist of the year for her first game in 2021-22 with multiple points.
- Senior Becca Gilmore scored her 11th goal of the season and registered her 11th assist of the year. She now has 102 career points. Gilmore has posted points in eight of her last nine games. She notched multiple points for the ninth time this year.
- First-year Mia Biotti recorded her ninth and 10th assists of the season. She posted multiple assists in a game for the third time this season.
- Sophomore Shannon Hollands scored her second goal of the season, and first-year Hannah Chorskenetted her first collegiate goal.
- First-year Paige Lester notched her first collegiate assist, first-year Taze Thompson registered her seventh assist of the year and senior Keely Moy notched her seventh assist of 2021-22.
- Senior goaltender Becky Dutton made 25 saves in her second shutout of the season and the fourth shutout of her career. She improved to 7-2-0 on the year.
- A total of 10 Crimson student-athletes tallied points on the night with five of them registering multiple points.
Game Notes
- Harvard extended its ECAC Hockey winning streak to six games. The Crimson has won three straight games – all against Ivy League opponents – by a combined score of 16-2. Harvard is 6-1-0 against Ivy opposition on the season.
- The Crimson improved to 10-1-0 when scoring first, 8-0-0 when leading after the first period, and 12-0-0 when leading after the second period. Harvard bettered its record to 8-3-0 at home this season, including a 6-1-0 mark against ECAC Hockey teams.
- Harvard has now scored a power-play goal in seven straight games. The Crimson went 1-4 on the advantage for the night.
- Harvard swept the season series with Dartmouth. The Crimson topped the Big Green, 4-1, in the first meeting on Oct. 23.
- Harvard improved to 53-43-3 against Dartmouth in 99 all-time meetings. The Crimson has won the last 11 matchups.
