Mitchell Gibson made 30 saves to help No. 20 Harvard men's ice hockey (9-5-1, 7-3-1 ECAC Hockey) earn a 4-1 win over St. Lawrence (5-12-4, 3-6-2 ECAC Hockey) at Bright-Landry Hockey Center.
Junior forward
John Farinacci had a goal and two assists, and first-year forward
Zakary Karpa added a goal to help the Crimson offense.
The Crimson came out of the gate firing on all cylinders, outshooting St. Lawrence 18-4 in the opening 20 minutes. Harvard scored twice in a span of 1:16 midway through the frame. Karpa broke the scoreless tie, putting in his own rebound at 12:10 to make it 1-0.
Then moments later, a shot by first-year defenseman
Jack Bar deflected right to Farinacci, for an open-net goal at 13:26 to give Harvard a two-goal lead.
Laferriere scored his first of the night midway through the second period, putting in a long rebound off an initial shot by
Alex Gaffney (two assists) at 8:48 to give Harvard a 3-0 advantage.
St. Lawrence cut the lead to 3-1 on Philippe Chapleau's goal at 17:42.
But early on in the third period, Laferriere scored his second of the night (and team-leading 10
th goal of the year) on a backhander off a beautiful feed from Gaffney from behind the net at 6:52 to give Harvard a decisive three-goal edge.
