Women’s Basketball Readies for Road Test at Penn on Saturday

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Hitting the road to close out the first month of conference action, the Harvard women's basketball team will take on Penn this Saturday, Jan. 29 at The Palestra. Tip-off time is set for 2 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.

What to Know
- Harvard is sporting a two-game win streak after back-to-back dominant wins last week over Dartmouth and Cornell on home court. The Crimson defeated Dartmouth, 96-62, last Monday, before taking down Cornell, 89-47, last Saturday. With the two victories, Harvard improved to 3-3 in Ivy League action and 9-9 on the season.
- Five Crimson players recorded double-digit points against Cornell last Saturday. Led by junior Maggie McCarthy with a career-high 18, McKenzie Forbes (16), Harmoni Turner (14), Annie Stritzel (12) and Tess Sussman (10) each contributed to the Crimson's strong offensive presence on the floor to seal the dominant victory over the Big Red.
- The Crimson has been hot from the floor this season, putting up 70 or more points in 11 games. Posting six games with 80+ points, Harvard ranks first in the Ivy League in scoring with 72.3 points per game and second in field goals with a .405 percentage.
- Harvard ranks eighth in the nation in three-point field goals made per game with 9.6 and places 13th with 172 total. The Crimson ranks first in the Ivy League in three-point percentage with .350. Tallying double-digit triples in nine games, Harvard registered a season-high 17 against Merrimack in November.
- Five Crimson players rank in the top-25 in scoring in the Ivy League. Harmoni Turner leads the way in third with 15.3 points per game, followed by Lola Mullaney (13.7 p/g, sixth), McKenzie Forbes (12.5 p/g, 10th), Tess Sussman (8.6 p/g, 20th) and Maggie McCarthy (8.3 p/g, 23rd).
- The Crimson currently sports a 5-1 home record within the friendly confines of Lavietes Pavilion. Dominating on its own hardwood, Harvard has surpassed 70 points in each of its home court victories this season.
- Harvard leads Penn in its all-time series, 52-35, splitting its series with the Quakers in 2019-20 with a win on home court and loss on the road. The Crimson will look to defeat Penn at The Palestra for the first time since 2012.
 
Leading the Way
The Friends of Harvard Women's Basketball Head Coach Kathy Delaney-Smith returns for her 40th season at the helm of the program. The winningest coach in Ivy League basketball history with 617 career victories, Delaney-Smith passed former Princeton head coach Pete Carril (514) for most wins by an Ancient Eight coach on either the men's or women's side during the 2013-14 season. Delaney-Smith owns a 617-421 overall record with a 360-159 mark in Ivy League play, including 12 20-win seasons, 11 Ivy titles and 15 postseason appearances.
 
Up Next

Harvard will return home to host Brown and Yale next weekend, Feb. 4-5. The Crimson will face the Bears on Friday, Feb. 4 at 6 p.m., before matching up against the Bulldogs on Saturday, Feb. 5 at 5 p.m. Both contests will be broadcast on ESPN+ and will be open to the public for admission.
