BOSTON, Mass. – For the second time in program history, the Harvard women's hockey program will skate at Fenway Park as a part of the 2023 Frozen Fenway series. The Crimson will face off against the Quinnipiac Bobcats on the ice at the historic ballpark on January 6, 2023.
The Crimson first took the ice at Frozen Fenway in 2017 against Boston College after its first scheduled game at the ballpark in 2013 was canceled due to inclement weather. The contest is a part of a two-day doubleheader featuring eight college hockey teams from around the region.
"We are thrilled to invite more schools from New England to play at Frozen Fenway," said Brett Miller, Director, Special Events at Fenway Sports Management. "Opening this historic ballpark up to new fanbases and making Frozen Fenway a regional celebration is something we're looking forward to as we kick off the new year, and these matchups are sure to deliver an action-packed experience for fans in the stands."
Harvard is coming off a 2021-22 season which saw the program capture the Ivy League Championship, Beanpot Championship and an NCAA Tournament appearance.
"We could not be more excited to have another opportunity to play at Fenway Park as a part of Frozen Fenway," said
Katey Stone, The Landry Family Head Coach for Harvard Women's Hockey. "I am thrilled that our student-athletes will get this experience to play at such a historic stadium in what will be an incredible event."
Hosted by ECAC Hockey and Fenway Sport Management and presented by Moderna and the U.S Virgin Islands, Frozen Fenway will take place after the 2023 NHL Winter Classic between the Boston Bruins and Pittsburgh Penguins.
"ECAC Hockey is thrilled that Harvard and Quinnipiac, two of the premier programs in ECAC Hockey and NCAA collegiate ice hockey, shall showcase their talent and skills as part of Frozen Fenway 2023," said Steve Hagwell, the Commissioner of ECAC Hockey. "We are especially excited for the student-athletes, coaches and staff to participate in such a unique and memorable event."
