Women's Hockey Falls in Overtime to Brown, 2-1

Box Score CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard women's hockey dropped another close contest to its Ivy League rival, Brown by a score of 2-1 tonight. The Crimson (1-3-0, 1-3-0 ECACH) fell to the Bears (3-0-1, 1-0-1 ECACH) in overtime after outshooting them 45-32 in the contest.
 
Paige Lester netted her first goal of the season and Alex Pellicci had another strong game with 30 saves to backstop the Crimson effort.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Brown netted the first goal of the game on a powerplay in the second minute of the action to give the Bears an early advantage.
  • Harvard went on the attack to try and flip the early deficit, outshooting Brown 12-3 over the next ten minutes.
  • At 12:17 in the first period, Harvard evened the score after Kristin Della Rovere found Paige Lester for a goal. Lester muscled her way to the net and forced a shot through the goalie and into the net.
  • At the end of the first period, the score was tied 1-1 despite the Crimson outshooting the Bears, 15-6.
  • Kristin Della Rovere continued her strong showing in the faceoff circles, winning nine of ten draws in the first period.
  • The Harvard powerplay came out firing in its second chance of the night, putting four shots on net, but were kept off the scoreboard.
  • Alex Pellicci had a solid start to the second period, saving six shots in the first five minutes of the frame.
  • The two sides battled for control of the puck for much of the second period as each team created few chances for the remainder of the 20.
  • The game was knotted at one goal apiece after 40 minutes and Harvard again held the lead in shots, 32-18.
  • Harvard's defense stepped up in the first ten minutes of the third period, countering the Brown rush. Pellicci had nine saves in the first half of the period while the Crimson combined to block another four shots by Brown.
  • Neither team could find the go-ahead goal as the sides remained tied at one after 60 minutes and would go to an overtime period.
  • Brown got the golden goal three minutes into the period to secure the win.

  • As a team, Harvard went 40-18 in the faceoff circle
  • Alex Pellicci made 30 saves in net to backstop the Crimson effort
  • Bloomer and Della Rovere each had two blocked shots to lead the team

Harvard will hit the road next weekend to take on Union and RPI on November 4 and 5, respectively. Those games will be streamed live on ESPN+.
