Cambridge, Mass. - The Harvard men's and women's cross-country teams raced at the NCAA Northeast Championship Meet on Friday, Nov. 11 in the Bronx, N.Y. The men's team placed second and earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship Meet, lead by Graham Blanks with a first-place finish. Maia Ramsden won the women's race to punch her ticket to the championship meet as well.
The women's 6k started the day, with Ramsden sticking with the lead pack from the beginning of the race. She used the final 1.2k of the race to pull ahead and finish the race five seconds ahead of the second place competitor in 20:20.6. Maya Rayle was the second finisher for the Crimson in 11th with a time of 20:52.8. Rayle and Ramsden will both take home All-Region honors for finishing in the top-25 at the meet. Isabelle Goldstein in 31st, Ella Gilson in 33rd and Penelope Salmon in 45th rounded out the scoring positions for the team. Harvard finished fourth in the region with 121 points.
After going 1-2 in the Ivy League Championship meet, Graham Blanks and Acer Iverson once again went 1-2 in the men's 10k at the regional Championship meet, leading the men's team to a second place finish and automatic Championship bid. Blanks finished in first with a time of 29:14.1 and Iverson finished second with a 29:19.7. To round out the five scoring places, David Melville finished in 15th, Shane Brosnan finished in 29th and Joe Ewing finished in 42nd. Blanks, Iverson and Melvlle will be awarded All-Region Honors for their finishes in the top-25. The team scored 89 points to take second behind Syracuse.
With a top-two finish in the 10k, the men's team earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship meet next Saturday, Nov. 19 in Stillwater, Okla. The women's team will await the NCAA Selection show airing Saturday, Nov. 12 at 5 p.m. where 13 at-large teams will be selected to advance to the championship meet.
