Box Score CAMBRIDGE, Mass.- Harvard women's hockey third period comeback was not enough as the Crimson fell to the Colgate Raiders 5-4. The Crimson (1-4-2,1-4-2) got goals from
Hannah Chorske,
Anne Bloomer and
Shannon Hollands and 41 saves from
Alex Pellicci.
How it Happened
In the first period, Colgate jumped out to an early 3-0 lead. Strong Crimson efforts in the first period from
Paige Lester, who had three shots on goal, and Kristen Della Rovere, who won all six of her faceoffs, kept them alive in the game.
In the second period,
Alex Pellicci's nine saves kept Colgate scoreless. However, the Crimson still trailed 3-0 at the end of the second.
To begin the third period,
Hannah Chorske had a breakaway when she was tripped by a Colgate defender and awarded a penalty shot. Chorske capitalized on the penalty shot to open the scoring for Harvard. This was Chorske's first goal of the season and the Crimson's first penalty shot goal since 2018.
Just over a minute later,
Anne Bloomer scored off a shot from the right circle, assisted by
Kyra Willoughby and Kristen Della Rovere, bringing the Crimson within one goal. Willoughby earned her first point of the season on the goal. The flood gates had officially opened.
Halfway through the third, Bloomer earned her second of the day, poking the puck around the Colgate defender to set herself up for a breakaway and putting it home to tie the game at three. Gwynn Lapp and
Jenna MacDonald recorded assists on the play.
Shannon Hollands scored the go-ahead goal, stuffing it in the bottom right corner, putting the Crimson up 4-3 with eight minutes left in the period. This was Hollands first goal of the season. The goal was unassisted. This was the first time Harvard scored four goals in a period since the first period in a win against Clarkson on January 28, 2022.
The Raiders answered the Crimson's outburst, scoring two more goals in the third period, including one with five seconds left to give the Raiders the win 5-4.
