Cambridge, Mass. - After a victory over URI at Monday's season and home opener, the Harvard women's basketball team will continue its 2022-23 campaign at home on Thursday, Nov. 10 against Boston College. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
What to Know
• Harvard women's basketball opened the Carrie Moore era on Monday when it defeated URI, 88-74, at home. Thursday's game against Boston College will mark Moore's first contest against a power-five opponent.
• Moore is in Year 1 after the retirement of Kathy Delaney-Smith, who was at the helm of the Crimson program for 40 years. Moore was named The Kathy Delaney-Smith Head Coach For Harvard Women's Basketball on April 6, 2022, and arrived in Cambridge after spending the 2021-22 season as an assistant coach at Michigan, helping the Wolverines to a 25-7 record and a No. 3 seed in the NCAA tournament. Moore also had assistant-coaching stints at North Carolina, Princeton and Creighton.
• Harvard had three players score in double figures, all of whom reached or surpassed the 20-point plateau. Harmoni Turner, the 2022 Ivy League Rookie of the Year, poured in a career-high 31 points on the strength of 11-of-19 shooting (2-3 3FG, 7-7 FT), five rebounds and a game-high five assists.
• Joining Turner in double figures were McKenzie Forbes and Lola Mullaney as both scored 20 points and knocked down four treys (8-for-17 combined). Forbes pulled down seven rebounds to share game-high honors with Gabby Anderson, while recording three blocked shots. Mullaney, who shot 8-for-13 from the floor, added four rebounds and a game-high-tying two steals.
• For the game, Harvard went 50-40-90 against Rhode Island, connecting on 50.8 percent of its field goals, 45.8 percent from three and 93.8 percent from the charity stripe.
• In defeating Rhode Island, the Crimson scored its first season-opening victory since a road win at Northern Illinois to open the 2019-20 season (Nov. 5, 2019) and posted its largest margin of victory in a season opener since a 1990 contest against Fordham.
• Harvard is meeting Boston College for the 19th time in series history, one in which the Crimson trails, 8-10.
• Harvard is hosting Boston College at home for the first time since 2009-10, when it defeated the Eagles in a close contest, 82-81.
• The Crimson is looking to break a two-game losing streak to the Eagles after suffering losses in 2010-11 and 2021-22
• This season's meeting will mark the second year in a row the teams have shared the court after 11 years without competition between the neighboring institutions.
• The game vs. Boston College marks the second of three straight home games to open 2022-23. UMass will pay Lavietes Pavilion a visit on Friday, Nov. 18, to close out the stretch of home games before the Crimson heads to Cancun, Mexico for the Cancun Challenge Tournament.
• Harvard's 2022-23 schedule features 12 non-conference games before Ivy League play begins Dec. 31 against Princeton. The team will hope to advance to the Ivy League tournament for the second consecutive season. The tournament will be held in Princeton, N.J. from March 11-12, 2023.
