CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard football team released its 2022 schedule,
Tim Murphy, The Thomas Stephenson Family Head Coach for Harvard Football, announced today.
Â
The Crimson approaches the 2022 season on the heels of an 8-2 effort in 2021, posting a 5-2 Ivy League mark.
Â
Harvard will open the season at home on Sept. 17, against Merrimack College. This will be the first meeting between the two Massachusetts schools.
Â
The Crimson will then travel to Brown to open Ivy League play on Sept. 24. Harvard has found success in recent years over the Bears having won the last 10 matchups, including a 49-17 victory at Harvard Stadium last season. This will be the 121st contest between the Ivy rivals.
Â
Moving along, on Oct. 1, the Crimson will welcome the Crusaders of Holy Cross to Cambridge. Harvard holds a 45-25-2 edge in the all-time series dating back to 1904 and most recently bested Holy Cross, 34-13, in Worcester last season.
Â
The Ivy League schedule continues when the Crimson travel to Ithaca, New York, for a matchup with Cornell on Oct. 8. Harvard owns the all-time series, 49-34-2, since the first matchup in 1890, a 77-0 victory for the Crimson. Harvard has won the last two matchups, including a 24-10 victory in Cambridge last fall.
Â
A non-conference game is slated for the following weekend when the Crimson will travel to Washington, D.C., for the second consecutive year, this time, taking on Howard (Oct. 15). Harvard defeated the Bison, 62-17, in the only other meeting between the schools in 2019. Â
Â
The remainder of the season will feature the rest of the Ivy League schedule.
Â
On Oct. 22, the Crimson will host Princeton at Harvard Stadium in a rematch of a five-overtime contest from a year ago. The 2022 matchup will be the 114th in the history of the rivalry.
Â
A trip to Hanover, New Hampshire, is next for Harvard for the 125th matchup with Dartmouth on Oct. 29. The Crimson were bested by the Big Green, 20-17, at Harvard Stadium last season in a back-and-forth game.
Â
Following a dominant 49-21 win at Columbia last season, the Crimson will welcome the Lions to Cambridge on Nov. 5. Harvard has enjoyed an edge in the history books, holding a 63-15-1 record over Columbia. In recent memory, the Crimson have won 20 of the last 22 meetings between the two schools and have taken every contest in Cambridge since 1995.
Â
On Nov. 12, Harvard will travel to Philadelphia for a contest with the Quakers of Penn. The Crimson earned a 23-7 victory last season in Cambridge. The two schools have split the last 10 meetings dating back to 2011, but Harvard owns the all-time series lead, 50-39-2.
Â
As always, the Crimson will wrap up the season against Yale in the 138th playing of The Game at Harvard Stadium in Cambridge on Nov. 19. The 137th edition did not disappoint with Harvard earning a dramatic 34-31 victory at the Yale Bowl, driving 66 yards in 22 seconds to take the lead with 37 seconds remaining. The Crimson has won 16 of the last 21 meetings with the Bulldogs dating back to the start of the century in 2000.
