ATLANTA, Ga. – No. 19 Harvard University men's swimming and diving tallied a pair of top-16 finishes and set a school record in the 200 medley relay on the first day of the 2022 NCAA Division I Men's Swimming and Diving Championships on Wednesday night at Georgia Tech's McAuley Aquatic Center.
Competing in the first two events of NCAAs, the Crimson notched a school record time of 1:22.42 for ninth place in the 200 medley relay before coming in 15
th place in the 800 free relay with a season-best time of 6:15.83. Harvard ranks 11
th in the team standings after day one.

th overall. The quartet garnered CSCAA Second Team All-America accolades with its top-16 finish.
In the team standings after day one, Harvard ranks in a tie for 11
th with 22 points. The Crimson stood as the only program from a non-Power Five conference to score team points on the day. Texas leads the team rankings with 74 points.
Harvard Highlights
- The quartet of senior Dean Farris, junior Umitcan Gures, junior Jared Simpson, and senior Raphael Marcoux set a school record in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:22.42, placing ninth and coming within 0.01 seconds of eighth place. The group won heat two, beat the previous school record of 1:24.06, and came in well under the NCAA A cut mark of 1:24.22.
- The 200 medley relay gained CSCAA Second Team All-America honors with its ninth-place performance for 18 team points. Farris and Marcoux both earned All-America in the event for the third time (2018, 2019) while Gures collected the plaudits in the event for the second time (2019).
- The group of sophomore Marcus Holmquist, senior Dean Farris, senior Mahlon Reihman, and first-year Shane Washart tallied a season-best time of 6:15.83 in the 800-yard freestyle relay, placing 15th overall. The relay – finishing second in heat two – came under the team's previous season best of 6:16.19 as well as the NCAA A cut time of 6:16.90.
- The 800 free relay captured CSCAA Second Team All-America accolades behind its 15th-place performance for four team points. Farris garnered All-America honors in the event for the fourth time (2017, 2018, 2019) while Reihman collected All-America in the event for the third time (2018, 2019).
- Farris came into the day with 16 career All-America awards, increasing that total to 18. Marcoux, Gures, and Reihman now have six, five, and three career All-America honors respectively. Simpson, Holmquist, and Washart collected their first career All-America plaudits.

Competition at the NCAA Championships continues tomorrow – Thursday, March 24 – with prelims at 10:00 a.m. and finals at 6:00 p.m. The Crimson is set to compete in the 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free, 1-meter diving, and 200 free relay on the day.
