Dean Farris earned First Team All-America in the 100 back, junior
Umitcan Gures gained First Team All-America with a school record in the 100 fly, and the Crimson posted a program record in the 400 medley relay as No. 19 Harvard University men's swimming and diving completed day three at the 2022 NCAA Division I Men's Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday at Georgia Tech's McAuley Aquatic Center.

Over the first three days of the championships, the Crimson has totaled seven top-16 finishes, including top-16 placings in all four relays. That group of finishes includes a pair of top-eight efforts from Farris (100 back) and Gures (100 back). Harvard has set four school records at the championships – in the 200 medley relay, 200 free relay, 100 fly, and 400 medley relay.
In the team standings, Harvard ranks 14
th with 76 team points – just 1.5 points behind 13
th-place Virginia (77.5 points). California leads the team standings with 320.5 points. The Crimson stands as the top non-Power Five school in the team rankings.
Harvard Highlights
- Junior Umitcan Gures finished eighth in the nation in the 100-yard butterfly, earning First Team All-America honors. Gures set the school record with a 44.63 in the prelims before notching a 44.88 in the finals – a time that also surpassed his previous school record of 44.89 entering the day. He notched 11 team points.
- Gures earned All-America accolades for the second time (2020) in the event and for the first time based off competition at the NCAA meet.
- In the prelims of the 100 fly, Gures placed fourth in his heat and seventh overall with a school record time of 44.63, securing his spot in the night's championship final. He beat his own previous school record of 44.89.
- Senior Dean Farris placed seventh in the country in the 100-yard backstroke, capturing First Team All-America accolades. Farris posted a season-best 44.55 in the prelims before registering a 44.68 in the finals. He tallied 12 team points with his finish.
- Farris gained All-America honors in the 100 back for the second time (2019).
- In the prelims of the 100 back, Farris captured his heat and placed sixth overall with a season-best time of 44.55. He earned a spot in the championship final with the result and eclipsed his previous season best of 45.39.
- Closing the night with the 400-yard medley relay, the group of senior Dean Farris, junior Jared Simpson, junior Umitcan Gures, and sophomore Marcus Holmquist established a school record with a time of 3:03.24 for third place in heat three, 11th place overall, and 12 team points. The quartet eclipsed the previous school record of 3:05.72.
- The quartet earned Second Team All-America laurels with its top-16 finish. Farris has contributed to all four of the Crimson's top-16 relay efforts at the championships.
- Farris now has 21 career All-America awards including five at the 2022 championships while Gures has tallied eight career All-America accolades with four at this year's championships. Simpson and Holmquist both earned their second All-America plaudits of the championships.
- In the 3-meter diving prelims, first-year Adam Wesson scored a 287.50, finishing 46th. On Thursday, Wesson placed 16th in the nation in the 1-meter, earning Second Team All-America honors in his NCAA debut.
- Competing in the 100 fly prelims, senior Jake Johnson clocked a 46.76, placing fifth in his heat and 38th overall out of 42 competitors.

Competition at the NCAA Championships concludes tomorrow – Saturday, March 26 – with prelims at 10:00 a.m. and finals at 6:00 p.m. The Crimson is set to compete in the 1650 free, 100 free, 200 fly, and 400 free relay on the day.
