Men's Fencing Earns USFCA Men's Team of the Year at 2022 NCAA Championships
NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Harvard men's fencing team has gained the USFCA Men's Team of the Year for its performance at the 2022 NCAA Fencing Championships.
The Crimson earned the honor after finishing first among men's teams and going 92-46 across two days at the NCAA Championships. The award was introduced last season.
The Crimson sabre representatives of
Filip Dolegiewicz and
Mitchell Saron tallied a championship-best 35-11 record with a +65-touch differential. Dolegiewicz earned the title, while Saron narrowly missed out on the final four and finished in fifth.
The foil squad consisted of
James Chen and
Kenji Bravo; the duo posted a combined 29-17 showing (+21 indicator) throughout the championships. Chen finished in a tie for third place after falling in the semifinals, while Bravo finished in 11th and earned an All-American honor.
The epee pair of
Mihir Kumashi and
Jonas Hansen recorded a 28-18 showing with a +45-touch differential. Kumashi placed seventh, while Hansen finished ninth.
The men's performance brought the Crimson from fifth to second in the standings over the third and fourth days of the tournament to cement Harvard's historic finish.
All six of the Crimson's men's fencers earned All-America accolades, including Dolegiewicz (First Team), Chen (First Team), Saron (Second Team), Kimashi (Second Team), Hansen (Honorable Mention), and Bravo (Honorable Mention).
