Box Score HANOVER, N.H. – Clinching a spot in the Ivy League Women's Basketball Tournament tonight, the Harvard women's basketball team (13-12, 7-6 Ivy) took down Dartmouth (3-23, 2-13 Ivy) in dominant fashion, 85-52, tonight at Leede Arena.
Senior
Tess Sussman led the Crimson's offense with a career-high 25 points. Junior
McKenzie Forbes and sophomore
Lola Mullaney reached double figures with 17 and 13 points, respectively. Forbes dished out a team-best four assists as well. Defensively, junior
Maggie McCarthy picked up a team-high five rebounds, while Forbes, Mullaney and first-year
Harmoni Turner each recorded four.
After a slow start through the first two minutes of play, the Crimson's offense came alive in the opening quarter. Sussman and Forbes sank triples to tie the game at 8-8, before Sussman netted two more buckets to give Harvard a 12-9 advantage. The teams traded baskets midway through, with Mullaney and Turner drilling triples to push the Crimson ahead 18-13. Sussman dropped in her ninth point of the quarter, while Stritzel added another to make it a 10-2 run. Harvard concluded the first quarter with a 24-17 lead.
The Crimson came out of the gates in quarter two with three quick buckets from Stritzel, Turner and
Elle Stauffer. Forbes then went on an offensive surge, draining three triples within two minutes of play to widen Harvard's margin to 20. An 11-2 run, highlighted by triples from Sussman and Mullaney, brought the Crimson to the 50-point mark as the quarter came to a close. Harvard took a 52-26 lead into halftime.
Picking up where it left off, Harvard started the third quarter recording five triples, including two from Sussman and one each from Forbes, McCarthy and Mullaney. The Crimson shot lights out in quarter three, drilling six triples. Sussman notched two more buckets to break her career high and put Harvard up 74-37. A dominant third quarter helped the Crimson build a 76-41 advantage heading into the final frame.
Harvard showed its depth in its bench in quarter four as
Lindsey Lawson and
Gabby Donaldson dropped in baskets for the Crimson. Harvard's defense held Dartmouth at bay, allowing just two baskets from the Big Green through the first five minutes of the frame. Despite a late run from Dartmouth, Harvard's offensive pressure was too much to overcome. The Crimson clinched an 85-52 victory.
