BOSTON, Mass. - Competing across town at Boston University, the Harvard men's track team had an excellent outing at the first day of the IC4A/ECAC meets. Competing in both the 4x400m Relay and the 60m dash, the Crimson broke not only the meet record in the 4x400m, but tied the Harvard school record in the 60m.
With the Crimson represented by the quartet of junior
Aaron Shirley (47.74), first-year
Oliver Murcko (46.10), sophomore Greg Lapit (46.06) and sophomore
Lance Ward (46.30), Harvard took first in its prelim heat, putting up a blistering time of 3:05.92. This was enough both to qualify for the finals, but also to shatter the previous meet record in the event of 3:06.98. Additionally, the squad broke the Ivy League and New England records, effectively setting a new mark of excellence across the map.
Competing for Harvard in the 60m, senior
DeMarkes Stradford put up a blazing time of 6.73 seconds. This was enough for Stradford to both claim first in his semi-final heat and to tie the Harvard school record in the event, the fourth time this year that he has done so.
