PHILADELPHIA – Harvard's
Hana Moataz will return to the Ramsay Cup Championship match for the second consecutive season after dispatching Trinity's Malak Ashraf Kamal, 3-1, in Saturday's semifinal round.
Moataz prevailed in a tight match at Arlen Spector Squash Center, winning the last two games over the tournament's No. 3 seed to earn the chance to compete for a National Championship crown on Sunday.
Moataz has topped two Bantams in her three matches thus far, but will now face Cornell's Sivasangari Subramaniam, the No. 1 seed, in tomorrow's final.
Moataz advanced to the final at the 2019-20 Ramsay Cup before being beaten by teammate Gina Kennedy. The senior captain will now have another chance at the title, squaring off against Subramaniam for the second time this season. The Big Red's top player came out on top, 3-2. in the first meeting in a back-and-forth dual that went the distance back in January.
The Crimson was also represented in the day's other Ramsay Cup semifinal, with
Marina Stefanoni battling the top-seeded Subramaniam. The Harvard sophomore kept things close, but ultimately fell, 3-0, ending what was a strong showing in Stefanoni's first CSA Individual Championship appearance.
Harvard's third competitor on Saturday,
Habiba Eldafrawy, prevailed in her semifinal matchup in the Holleran Cup South bracket, outlasting Trinity's Lujan Palacios, 3-2. The Crimson first-year took the decisive fifth game, 11-9, earning the right to face Drexel's Noa Romero Blazquez in tomorrow's B-draw final.
